004 - Surviving Las Vegas
Denise and Ralph Balbin join the show to talk about their experience escaping the Las Vegas Massacre.
They were two of thousands of people attending the Route 91 country music festival in Las Vegas, NV. The final night of the festival, Oct 1, 2017, a gunman opened fire from the nearby Mandalay Bay hotel, killing 58 people and wounding 851 in what is the deadliest mass shooting from a single individual in our nation's history.
Recorded a little more than 4 months after the event, in February of 2018, Denise and Ralph recall their experience that night, escaping the concert with little more than scrapes and bruises. During the conversation, the layout of the venue and surrounding area is mentioned. These maps should help with visualizing their escape route. They come from the LA Times, which has a very good overview of the events of that evening in this article.
Of course, being part of something so traumatic extols more than just physical harm, so they also go on to detail how they have progressed in getting back to normal and the resulting lessons and perspective gained.
